Here’s one to consider over the holidays for the musically gifted amongst you. In partnership with Sound and Music, the SLG is offering the opportunity for composers to take part in an Embedded residency, starting spring 2015. For the uninitiated, Embedded is a composer and creative artist development programme funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

The residency is aimed at composers at an early stage in their career, providing a professional development opportunity, offering support and space to explore creative ideas and compositional practice, as well as gaining experience in producing and presenting new work.

Applicants are encouraged to draw upon the SLG’s existing relationships with neighbouring housing estates, schools, institutions and individuals, to explore the sonic properties of the area, or develop responses to shared spaces and experiences found within Camberwell and Peckham.

Lasting approximately twelve months, the successful residency applicant will conceive, develop, produce and deliver one or more new works which engage, celebrate and animate the South London Gallery and its immediate area. They will immerse themselves in the gallery’s work and will receive financial support and mentoring throughout the programme.

Full details of the residency here. Application deadline 12pm Wed 14 Jan 2015. For any queries contact Nicole Rochman at Sound and Music: email nicole.rochman@soundandmusic.org or call 020 7759 1819.
